031 | OPPIKOPPI FESTIVAL 2016 THE UNSEA

The dust has literally not even settled yet! Oppikoppi Festival remains one of the most revered festivals in South Africa and there's no surprise as to why: it's an uncompromising environment - it's hot? yeah, all day. It's cold - yeah all night. People are drunk - catch up! Everyone is singing - everyone. It's dirty - and? You'll see a myriad of blogs telling you what to expect (texxandthecity.com is usually a great place to start) but there are a few things that are usually lacking at Oppikoppi Festival: sleep, foresight, showers, sunblock, and water... I didn't get much of any.

People descend on Northam like the Huns and it's one gear from there: GO! You get as filthy as is conceivably possible, as strung out as your body can allow, and get to see your favourite artists with your friends - it's like being in a filthy, smelly version of heaven! It's an Iron Man of sorts... An apocalyptic marathon through the most basal human emotions.

This year I took it upon myself to break-in a brand new Nikon D500 in the dust. I have so much to say (praises) about that camera and I'm going to save it for a different post because I just want to use all the nice words to describe it but you can check out all here the images to see what I mean - a picture being a thousand words and all that...

There's a rad piece about Kid Fonque's otherwordly set here http://win.gs/2aW8MNe and an insane bit about the Sketchy Bongo & Aewon Wolf performance here http://win.gs/2arkZK5

P.S. I was the one who forgot the sunblock.
