007 | CTEMF 2016

Established in 2012, the festival was soon established as a platform for South Africa’s burgeoning electronic music culture and the industry. International guests share the stage with the best of the local scene while the lecture series explore the fundamentals of the industry. The festival has a number of smaller initiatives that revolve around it as well like, "Pay It Forward", where tickets for less-fortunate fans are crowd funded.

The fifth edition of the Cape Town Electronic Music Festival kicked off with a 3-day programme of lectures and workshops at the Red Bull Studios and Guga S'thebe that preceded the event at city hall. Guests included DJ Rozzano, Superfly, Button Bashers, DJ Lag, Rudeboyz, Chloe, Petite Noir, Sir Vincent, DJ Loyd, and Goldie. The lectures were free and anyone could engage with the speakers and assuage any curiosity.

That is the blurb you can read on the website though. Imagine spending a week confined to spaces that are pregnant with expectation - a palpable excitement that is as refreshing as it is electric! Then unleash that energy on City Hall as thousands of wide-eyed merrymakers tear down the corridors and pour into the auditorium eager to witness the fitness...

The atmosphere at CTEMF is electric. The most critical elements of the festival contained in spaces that breathe whispers of the Colosseum - lithe bodies blending into the balusters as shadows flicker across the floors like gargoyles. Atop the stage a ringmaster, himself bathed in electric light, whipping the twitching bodies into a mass of frenzied gestures and crooked smiles. Welcome to CTEMF.
